Same gender marriage- it is indeed a controversy existing for years, or even decades. Debates, arguments and all sorts of discussions had already been made over the years in order to justify this kind of marriage. Although, some other states had already legalized it like New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, etc., there’s always that certain groups that protests against it, the Church and some anti-gay organizations or groups. But despite, all those controversies, another state had recently legalized the same gender marriage.
Washington DC’s Governor, Christine Gregoire, recently signed the state’s same gender marriage bill into law. Now, it is legal for lesbians and gays to get married in Washington DC, making them the 7th state that legalized it. This recent event brought happiness in gay people residing in Washington which celebrated that night when the bill was signed. Although they should not celebrate that much because news says that there had been signature campaigns against this kind of marriage which are believed to be circulated by anti-gay organizations.
With this, if there are proper amount of signatures gathered, then Washington will have to do voting of which, who, and how many would be in favor of the same gender marriage bill. But if the said signature campaigns fail to gather enough signatures, then the gay people can continue to celebrate and be festive for they can begin marrying each other by the month of June. Voting for legalizing the same gender marriage will also happen in New Jersey by Thursday.
