Some historical say that, a king called David did so 1000years before the birth of Jesus and similiar to the present Arab World. Arabians smear dirt on their faces during the time of final departure from earth. In early Christianity anyone who had left the faith and wanted to return had a show public penance since commited public apostsy. In the 12th century, when the curch wanted to emphasize everyone to repent, the practice of imposing ashes was revived. It has a positive impact in the time of renewal. This reminds incomprehensive contrast of their short temporal years with eternity. The ashes are a reminder that it blessed to be a participant in a century-traditon. Now-a-days, this traditon has a positive impact in the followers only for those who are observent, have to remind themselves that we are all in the same boat. We need God’s grace and mercy and we all are equal before him.
